Short day tour
On the Outlander trail around the Forth valley
for your private, flexible tailor-made small group
sample itinerary SD#13
with optional visits of:
- Culross (fictional Cranesmuir & witches trial and Culross palace has the herb garden)
- Falkland (fictional Inverness)
- Aberdour castle & gardens (In Dragonfly in Amber, the Abbey is located on the north coast of France and Claire tends to Jamie prior to them leaving Scotland) with an optional visit of Aberdour beach
- We are crossing the River Forth for a photostop of the 3 Forth bridges
- Hopetoun house (fictional home of the Duke of Sandringham)
- Midhope castle (fictional Lallybroch)
- Blackness castle (fictional Fort William)
- Doune castle (fictional Castle Leod, home of the MacKenzie clan)
On a short day tour, there won’t be time to go inside and visit all of these venues, however subject to the group’s preferences and if they wish to sacrifice a few of the above stops, it would be possible to also include
Drummond castle gardens (which featured as Versailles).
You might also wish to consider upgrading this into a full one day tour and then have more time and be able to visit more Outlander filming locations.
To have more time at these places, the option to upgrade/extend to a full day tour exists, also to visit more places such as
- Preston mill (featured in Outlander) in the East or
- Finnich glen (best very early in the morning & only after prolonged dry spells, if you are fit & have wellington boots) in the West or
- Falkland (featured as “Inverness” in the Outlander series) in the North
We pick up from (m)any locations, incl. Stirling University
We would be delighted to run this tour as a private, small group tour (up to 8 people)
