The Outer Hebrides, an archipelago off Scotland’s West Coast (further away from the coast than the Inner Hebrides) are renowned for their breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and tranquil atmosphere. Comprising over 15 inhabited islands, with the conjoined island of Lewis and Harris being the largest Scottish and the 3rd largest British island (after the island of Great Britain and the island of Ireland). The Outer Hebrides from the Port of Ness in the North of Lewis to Bhatersay/Barra in the South are 174 miles / 270 km long and are all connected by causeways, except for the 2 ferries across the Sound of Harris from Harris to Berneray and across the Sound of Barra from Eriskay to Barra. To visit Lewis – Great Bernera – Harris – Scalpay – Berneray – North Uist – Grimsay – Benbecula – South Uist – Eriskay – Barra & Vatersay you only need to take 2 ferries, once you are on the Outer Hebrides. This chain of many beautiful islands features pristine beaches, rugged cliffs, and stunning machair grasslands. The Outer Hebrides are steeped in Gaelic culture, with traditional music, crafts, and vibrant festivals reflecting the islands’ unique identity.
