The South of Scotland is located just north of the border with England. It is a tranquil region of rolling hills & remote valleys in the Southern Uplands & Galloway forest park with expansive moorlands ranging from the Berwickshire coast of the Borders in the East to Dumfries & Galloway in the West. This area is known for its peaceful countryside with many charming small towns, and historic sites like abbeys, castles, and ancient battlefields. The stunning landscape is ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, with routes such as the Southern Upland Way offering scenic views. The South of Scotland has a rich history in farming (including sheep farms & Border collies) and textiles and are less populated than other regions, providing a quiet escape with a blend of natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage.
The South of Scotland is also on the crossroads to the other British nations
– from Cairnryan in Galloway we take the ferry to Belfast & Larne in Northern Ireland & on to the Irish Republic
On our Scottish Borders – Berwickshire coast – Bamburgh, Lindisfarne & Northumberland coast – or – Hadrian’s Wall tours we often find ourselves crossing back and forth between the two sides, the Borders in Scotland and Northumberland in England.
From Dumfries and Gretna Green in Scotland it is just a short hop over into Cumbria to Carlisle, the Hadrian’s Wall and to the Lake District in England.
