The English Lake District & Cumbria – Saturday, 9th and Sunday, 10th February 2019

  • Pick up from Stirling/Uni with additional pick up / drop off options available

Outbound stop at beautiful & historic Carlisle / return stop at Gretna Green; optional other stops on route could be Wanlockhead (Scotland’s highest village) or the New Lanark mills with the Falls of the Clyde.

  • Scenic lakes and mountain round tour (incl. Derwent water, Ullswater, Thirlmere, Lake Windermere, Coniston water, etc.)
  • Spectacular views of the Lake District’s high peaks from the Castlerigg Stone Circle
  • Free time to visit Keswick, Windermere and the option to visit the Beatrix Potter / Peter Rabbit museum, etc.
  • Depending on the weather, the group’s preferences and time management, we might have time to visit Borrowdale Valley, Newlands Valley, Thirlmere, and Grasmere.

We are staying one night at the pre-booked YHA in Ambleside and the rate per night per person in a dorm bed is £32 (on top of the fare). If you prefer not to stay at the hostel and prefer to stay somewhere else and book yourself, you have to let us know at least 10 days or so ahead of time, so we can cancel your bed booking without charges.

Depending on weather conditions some mountain passes and routes might be closed and we might therefore travel on alternative more lower lying routes.

TOUR COST:

As it is the same cost to run a day tour with 1 or with 8 passengers on board, it is the same cost overall for the hire of the 8 passenger mini-bus with driver/guide per day, regardless of how many passengers are travelling on board.

Winter rates are much reduced, so you might still find it economical per person for you and your friends to go ahead with the tour, even if we don’t manage to fill the coach and you can’t find any more of your friends to join you. So even if you are only 7, 6 or 5 passengers in total, you will still find the price per person competitive and in the end it is your own private tour and you have more space on the mini-bus.

Alternatively if you give us enough notice, generally 4 days + on a tour involving overnight accommodation, you may decide, that as there are too few guests, you are cancelling the tour, as the per person rate is too high.

November to February weekend (Saturdays and Sundays) are £199 per day https://unicorntours.co.uk/nov-feb-low-season-adults-students-sat-sun/

  • £25 per person based on a tour group of 8 guests for this reconnaissance 2 day weekend winter tour
  • £28 per person based on a tour group of 7 guests for this reconnaissance 2 day weekend winter tour
  • £33 per person based on a tour group of 6 guests for this reconnaissance 2 day weekend winter tour
  • £39 per person based on a tour group of 5 guests for this reconnaissance 2 day weekend winter tour
  • £49 per person based on a tour group of 4 guests for this reconnaissance 2 day weekend winter tour
  • £66 per person based on a tour group of 3 guests for this reconnaissance 2 day weekend winter tour
  • £99 per person based on a tour group of 2 guests for this reconnaissance 2 day weekend winter tour
  • £199 per person based on a tour group of 1 guest for this reconnaissance 2 day weekend winter tour

= £398 for a 2 day weekend tour (hire of 8 passenger mini-bus with driver / tour guide)

/ divided by 2, as we do offer a 50% discount due to this being a reconnaissance tour = £199 for this particular 2 day winter weekend tour (hire of 8 passenger mini-bus with driver / tour guide) as a 50% discount as this is less of a guided tour, but more of a get to know the place, journey of discovery, where the driver/guide himself has to still get to learn about the places we visit

Either

you are a group of friends, i.e. a group of 3, 4, 5,6 or 7 people booking a tour altogether and YOU KNOW FROM THE OUTSET THAT THIS IS A DEFINITE GO AHEAD – in which case you would pay £25 per person – and we would advertise the remaining seats left. In the event of there being less than 8 passengers on the tour, you then just pay the difference on the day

  • if the final group size is 7 and you have paid £25 pp, you would pay the difference of £3 per person (= £28 pp if 7)
  • if the final group size is 6 and you have paid £25 pp, you would pay the difference of £8 per person (=£33 pp if 6)
  • if the final group size is 5 and you have paid £25 pp, you would pay the difference of £14 per person (=£39 pp if 5))
  • if the final group size is 4 and you have paid £25 pp, you would pay the difference of £24 per person (=£49 pp if 4)
  • if the final group size is 3 and you have paid £25 pp, you would pay the difference of £41 per person (= £66 pp if 3)
  • etc.

OR

you wish to join the tour as an INDIVIDUAL, a COUPLE or a GROUP of 3 or 4 FRIENDS, WHO WOULD ONLY LIKE TO JOIN THE TOUR, IF THE TOUR IS FULL (group size 8) or near full (group size 7 or 6)  – in which case you can register your interest by being put on the WAITING LIST and don’t pay until more people have come forward, who wish to book and pay for the tour later.

I will keep you up-to-date, i.e. send out an email, we are currently 5, 6 or 7 on the waiting list, would you like to book and pay the £25 per person now and any difference (in case there are less than 8 passengers) on the day of travel.

Once we have a group size of 8, 7, 6 or 5 passengers you can then decide, if you wish to proceed and book yourself onto the tour (the usual deadline is about 7 days before the tour date) and pay or alternatively cancel and being removed from the waiting list.
