Bamburgh castle (Northumberland/England) with possible stops
at Holy Island/Lindisfarne and along the Berwickshire/the Scottish Borders & East Lothian

We will watch the tides for the Holy Isle tides for Holy island / Lindisfarne and will either visit before or after Bamburgh castle – please note you can chose to just visit either attraction / take photos from the outside – or pay the entrance fee and we stay longer and visit from the inside Bamburgh castle provided there is time, the group would like to visit and the tides is out.

In addition to Bamburgh castle and Holy Island / Lindisfarne, depending on the group’s preferences, the timekeeping and the weather, we will be able to stop at 2 or more of the listed places below:
Possible stops on the outbound or return journey in Kelso, one of the most beautiful of the towns in the borders with its cobbled market square, cathedral and Floors castle along the River Tweed plus
- Possible stop at Melrose or alternatively along the coast with the picturesque fishing villages of St Abbs and Eyemouth in the marine nature reserve and the stunning beach of Coldingham
- Possible stop at Dunbar, Tantallon castle, North Berwick and at Yellowcraig or Gullane beach or Roslin chapel (you might remember Dan Brown’s “Da Vinci code”, Roslin chapel is where the bible was “chiseled into stone”)

Sample tour of a recent private tour itinerary to Bamburgh castle:
Bamburgh/Northumbria via the Berwickshire & East Lothian coast
– On a cold, but crisp clear blue sky morning we are leaving Edinburgh and are heading to Preston Mills.
After passing Dunbar we travel south along the East coast and are leaving East Lothian behind before we reach the Berwickshire coast of the Scottish Borders.
We have a stop at the Northumbrian/English border post and grab some breakfast on the outskirts of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
We cross the causeway to the tidal Holy Isle of Lindisfarne, where we go for a walk around the village, the priory & enjoy the coastal views over to Lindisfarne castle & the Farne islands.
As we reach dramatic & spectacular Bamburgh castle towering over the beach, we explore the long and rich history & the beautiful & Christmassy inside of the castle.
After a quick lunch, we have a scenic drive with a couple of Bamburgh castle photostops before heading back up North.
We have a photostop at the Scottish Border and our first stop is St. Abbs, where we go for a stroll to enjoy the harbour, cliffs and coastal views and where we befriend a seal.
After a quick stop at Coldingham sands we head for our photostop of Bass Rock, the beach below the cafe and Tantallon castle.
At North Berwick, we go for a circular walk to take in the great views of Bass Rock, visit the Scottish seabird centre & along the harbour.
Our final stop of the day was at Yellowcraigs beach, where we enjoy the awesome great beach & the island views, incl. of Fidra and its lighthouse.
